The 4 Steps

Okay, now onto making the video. Making videos fall into 4 basic steps for the entire process of camera to DVD.

The four steps describe apply to video editing. If you want to transfer your footage to DVD without editing, there are stand-alone DVD recorders available. You can plug in your camera into these DVD recorders and push record.

If you plan to edit then you'll need to go through these steps. Good software packages should automate all of these steps for you so it only takes a click of button to capture, render or burn.

Step 1. Capturing the video footage.

This means getting the video from the camera onto your computer into a format that your software recognizes and can edit.

Step 2. Editing.

Manipulating the footage into the right order and adding music, transitions and titles.

Step 3. Rendering.

Getting the video footage from the editing format to the DVD format that can play in a DVD player.

Step 4. Burning to DVD.

Getting the edited movie transferred to a playable DVD.
